The Garden State has something for everyone and is ranked the best state to live in in the USA. A high proportion of the state is given over to natural parks and there are world-class golf courses, a vibrant cafe culture and a dynamic craft brewing scene.

Veterinarian Salaries in New Jersey

The average salary for associate veterinarians based in New Jersey is $129,341.

Entry-level salaries for veterinarians in New Jersey start at $86,655.

Highly qualified and experienced veterinarians can expect to earn, on average, $193,0551.

What’s it like to live in New Jersey?

New Jersey is currently ranked the best state to live in and the best place to bring up a child in the US. Known as the food capital of America, food culture is driven by influences from Brazil, Portugal, India and Spain, plus fantastic produce and farmer’s markets.

New Jersey is home to major league soccer, hockey and football teams. And the fantastic geography of seashore to mountains makes the state a great place to enjoy an outdoor adventure with golf, skiing, biking and hiking all on offer.

Experienced veterinarians with children will find New Jersey a great place to raise a family. While newly qualified vets will make the most of the fantastic life-work balance and amazing art and culture scene.

What are the Best Cities/Areas to Work as a Veterinarian in New Jersey?

Urban veterinarians will head for centers like Philadelphia and New York, where job opportunities are plentiful without experiencing higher costs of living.

Large animal specialists will find above-average salaries and plenty of opportunities in more rural areas. The opening of a new veterinary school at Rowan University in Glassboro offers opportunities for personal development and teaching positions.

What are the Licensing Requirements to Work for DVM Jobs in New Jersey?

Applicants for a license to practice as a veterinarian in New Jersey will need to complete an application form and submit it with a fee to the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Fingerprints are required, and you must submit to a criminal record background check. Licenses are valid for two years, and you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be a license holder in good standing and meet the exam requirements.
  • Have passed the NBE & CCT under an approved licensing examination board e.g. NAVLE.
  • Or have been practicing as a veterinarian for at least three of the five previous years.
