Veterinary Assistant Jobs

Assistant vet surgeons undertake a range of tasks to support the lead vet. These could include preparing the theatre for surgery, preparing accommodation for patients and grooming, feeding and exercising hospitalised animals.

They’re employees of a veterinary practice rather than owning and operating their own practice as a Director and it may be their first job as a graduate. 

Assistant Veterinarian duties include:

• Examination and diagnosis.
• Treatment of animal injuries, disorders and diseases.
• Performing or assisting with surgery.
• Maintaining medical records.

As an Assistant Veterinarian, your level of responsibility will vary greatly depending on whether you are a new graduate or have a few years of experience as well as the size of the practice you are working in. You will likely be expected to continue your education via CPD in order to progress to a more senior position.
