Small Animal Vet Surgeon Job, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England

Small Animal Vet Surgeon Job, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England

Job Description: Our client is seeking a motivated and compassionate Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys a varied clinical caseload and values the opportunity to develop professionally within an encouraging working environment. This position is ideal for someone looking to strengthen their medical and surgical abilities while benefiting from the guidance of experienced veterinary colleagues. With a steady flow of interesting cases and well-equipped clinical facilities, the role provides an excellent foundation for building confidence, refining diagnostic skills and delivering consistently high standards of patient care.

A four-day working week with fixed days off offers a predictable schedule, complemented by a one-in-three Saturday rotation and a limited, shared out-of-hours and bank holiday commitment supported by a nearby 24-hour veterinary facility. The successful applicant will work alongside two experienced veterinary surgeons, five registered veterinary nurses and five client care assistants, creating a welcoming and cooperative clinical setting. Opportunities for mentorship, professional development and meaningful client relationships make this an attractive position for a veterinarian seeking both career progression and a balanced working routine.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Current RCVS registration and the appropriate veterinary qualifications to practise in England
  • A compassionate and practical approach to managing a diverse range of small animal medical and surgical cases
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain treatment recommendations clearly to pet owners
  • Willingness to participate in a shared weekend and out-of-hours schedule while maintaining excellent clinical standards
  • A proactive attitude towards learning, case discussions and ongoing development of veterinary expertise

Package:

  • A predictable four-day working arrangement with designated days off to encourage a balanced lifestyle
  • Annual continuing professional development funding of £1,500 with three additional paid study days
  • Private medical insurance and a healthcare cash plan provided from the commencement of employment
  • Five weeks of annual leave in addition to bank holidays, with enhanced holiday entitlement through continued service
  • Financial assistance towards professional subscriptions, including RCVS, BVA and VDS membership fees
  • Access to funded clinical certificates and educational opportunities designed to support specialist interests
  • An additional paid personal leave day alongside standard holiday allowances
  • Life assurance benefits providing coverage equivalent to three times the annual salary
  • Round-the-clock confidential counselling assistance and access to employee support services
  • Travel-related advantages through cycle purchase arrangements and public transport season ticket assistance
