Small Animal Vet Surgeon Job, Durham, County Durham, England

Small Animal Vet Surgeon Job, Durham, County Durham, England

Job Description: Our client is seeking a Senior Veterinary Surgeon with an advanced clinical skill set or an interest in developing leadership responsibilities. This opportunity would suit an experienced clinician ready to take greater ownership of clinical standards, mentor developing colleagues, and continue building expertise within a chosen area. The caseload spans small animal and exotic patients, with existing clinical interests including feline medicine, dermatology, advanced medicine, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, and exotic animal care.

The position offers considerable flexibility around working patterns, including full-time, part-time, school-hour arrangements, and block working. A standard full-time rota consists of four nine-hour days with one Saturday in four and no routine on-call requirement. Further qualifications can be supported, including certificate-level study, while veterinarians interested in non-clinical leadership can progressively develop those responsibilities alongside their clinical work.

Qualifications Needed:

  • MRCVS registration with substantial experience in small animal clinical practice
  • Advanced clinical capabilities, postgraduate qualifications, or a clear interest in progressing towards senior responsibilities
  • Confidence supporting and mentoring less experienced veterinary colleagues
  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach to clinical decision-making
  • Motivation to develop either a specialist clinical interest or broader leadership capabilities

Package:

  • Flexible full-time and part-time working patterns available
  • Four nine-hour days available within the standard full-time rota
  • Only 1-in-4 Saturdays with no routine on-call commitment
  • Certificate funding available in an individually selected clinical discipline
  • £1,750 annual CPD allowance alongside continued training support
  • 6.6 weeks of paid annual leave including bank holidays, applied pro rata
  • RCVS membership, VDS cover and two additional professional subscriptions funded
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and surrogacy provisions
  • Company sick pay, annual salary reviews and discounted veterinary fees
  • Structured opportunities to progress clinically or develop non-clinical leadership responsibilities
