Job Description: Our client is seeking a Small Animal Medical Director Veterinarian to combine hands-on clinical medicine with responsibility for guiding veterinary standards, developing associate veterinarians and supporting the continued performance of the hospital. The role offers a strong balance between maintaining an active caseload and taking ownership of mentorship, doctor development and clinical consistency.
With access to in-house ultrasound and established small animal resources, the successful candidate will be able to lead by example in everyday practice while working closely with the Practice Manager on planning, compliance and operational priorities. This opportunity would suit a veterinarian who enjoys coaching others, communicating clearly and helping create an environment where both patient care and team development continue to progress.
Qualifications Needed:
- Minimum of two years of practical veterinary experience
- DVM degree with an active Illinois veterinary licence in good standing
- Confident interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and motivate colleagues
- Willingness to develop knowledge of hospital operations and financial performance
- Strong written and verbal communication with a collaborative leadership approach
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain an active small animal caseload while setting a strong example for clinical quality
- Guide associate veterinarians through performance discussions, coaching and individual development planning
- Coordinate regular doctor meetings around case standards, new services and clinical improvement
- Work alongside the Practice Manager on hospital planning, regulatory requirements and performance goals
- Support mentorship and externship activity while contributing to veterinarian recruitment and retention
