Job Description: Our client is seeking a Small Animal Medical Director Veterinarian to take on a hands-on leadership role within an established community practice. The position combines clinical medicine with responsibility for mentoring associate veterinarians, maintaining professional standards and helping guide the day-to-day clinical direction of the hospital.
The successful candidate will continue managing patients directly while also supporting case discussions, overseeing medical quality and working closely with operational leadership. This role is best suited to an experienced veterinarian who enjoys teaching, is comfortable making decisions in a busy environment and wants greater influence over how a practice develops.
Qualifications Needed:
- Minimum of five years of clinical veterinary experience
- DVM or VMD qualification with Illinois licensure, or eligibility to obtain
- DEA licence in good standing
- Confident leadership style with a genuine interest in coaching and mentorship
- Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with operational and regulatory oversight
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Guide medical standards and support consistent clinical decision-making
- Mentor associate veterinarians through case reviews and day-to-day coaching
- Maintain an active caseload across general medicine and surgery
- Work closely with the Practice Manager on operational priorities and hospital performance
- Ensure regulatory requirements and professional standards are consistently met
