Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Small Animal Medical Director Veterinarian to take a leading role in re-establishing and shaping a high-volume general practice. This position is ideal for a confident clinician who combines strong medical and surgical ability with sound leadership, operational awareness and the ability to make decisive clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will remain actively involved in patient care while setting medical standards, supporting fellow veterinarians, reviewing clinical quality and helping refine hospital processes. The role also carries responsibility for mentoring doctors, resolving clinical concerns, contributing to recruitment and identifying opportunities to strengthen services and overall performance.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading medical standards, clinical protocols and quality-of-care expectations
  • Managing consultations, diagnostics, surgery and dentistry alongside leadership duties
  • Mentoring veterinarians and supporting performance, development and clinical consistency
  • Reviewing medical records, controlled-drug processes and patient care workflows
  • Working closely with operational leadership to improve efficiency, services and practice performance

Qualifications Needed:

  • DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary institution
  • Current California veterinary licence with ability to obtain and maintain DEA registration
  • Approximately 3–5+ years of veterinary practice experience
  • Strong diagnostic, surgical, dental and client communication skills
  • Confident leadership, delegation and decision-making abilities
