Job Description: Our client is seeking a Small Animal Medical Director Veterinarian to combine active clinical practice with responsibility for developing veterinarians, strengthening medical standards and helping guide hospital performance. The successful candidate will remain hands-on with patient care while coaching associate veterinarians, leading doctor discussions and working closely with the Practice Manager to improve clinical quality, team engagement and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications Needed:
- DVM degree with an active Illinois veterinary licence in good standing
- Minimum of two years of practical clinical experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop other veterinarians
- Interest in learning the financial and operational aspects of veterinary leadership
- Confident written and verbal communication with a collaborative leadership approach
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Mentor associate veterinarians through regular development discussions and clinical coaching
- Lead monthly doctor meetings focused on medical standards, new services and best practice
- Maintain an active clinical caseload while modelling efficient, high-quality patient care
- Partner with the Practice Manager on annual planning, performance and regulatory compliance
- Oversee veterinary mentorship and externship activity while supporting future recruitment
