Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Small Animal Medical Director Veterinarian to combine hands-on clinical medicine with responsibility for developing doctors, maintaining medical standards and supporting the overall performance of a busy practice. This full-time leadership opportunity is suited to a confident veterinarian who enjoys mentoring colleagues, managing complex clinical decisions and creating a positive environment focused on excellent patient and client care.
The successful candidate will directly manage and develop a team of veterinarians while continuing to diagnose and treat small animal patients. Responsibilities will extend to doctor scheduling, clinical quality, recruitment support, controlled-drug oversight, medical protocols and collaboration with operational and nursing leadership. The position also offers significant scope to influence service availability, professional development and long-term practice performance.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Mentoring veterinarians through regular coaching, feedback and professional development discussions
- Overseeing medical protocols, controlled substances and regulatory standards across daily clinical activity
- Managing consultations and treatment plans while remaining actively involved in patient care
- Coordinating doctor coverage and helping ensure surgical and clinical capacity meets client demand
- Reviewing clinical and financial performance alongside operational leadership to identify opportunities for improvement
Qualifications Needed:
- DVM or equivalent veterinary qualification with active Massachusetts licensure or eligibility
- DEA registration appropriate to the position
- Five or more years of veterinary experience
- Previous experience managing, mentoring or developing veterinarians
- Strong communication, leadership and clinical decision-making capabilities
