Small Animal Emergency Veterinarian Job, Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Small Animal Emergency Veterinarian Job, Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Job Description: Our client is seeking a passionate and capable Emergency Veterinarian to join a modern, purpose-built veterinary facility providing round-the-clock emergency, critical care and general veterinary services. This opportunity offers an exciting combination of urgent medical presentations, complex surgical cases and occasional preventative healthcare, making it particularly appealing to clinicians who enjoy variety and challenging clinical work. With advanced diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and endoscopy, the successful candidate will have the resources to investigate complicated cases, make informed treatment decisions and deliver exceptional care to companion animals.

Working alongside nine veterinarians and an extensive team of registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and client care professionals, the position provides a highly collaborative clinical environment where knowledge sharing and practical mentorship are actively encouraged. The caseload includes emergency medicine, critical patient management, soft tissue surgery and opportunities to gain exposure to exotic companion animals, including birds and small mammals. Both experienced emergency clinicians and veterinarians looking to strengthen their emergency capabilities will benefit from supportive colleagues and opportunities to pursue additional clinical interests.

The working environment places importance on sustainable scheduling, with weekend duties distributed fairly to encourage a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal commitments. Regular case discussions, opportunities for hands-on learning and access to experienced veterinary colleagues create an excellent foundation for continued development. This role is ideal for someone seeking a rewarding emergency veterinary career with opportunities to broaden clinical expertise and contribute to high-quality patient care.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing urgent and critical medical presentations through rapid patient assessment, stabilisation and appropriate emergency treatment
  • Performing diagnostic investigations and interpreting ultrasound, endoscopy and other clinical findings to guide treatment decisions
  • Undertaking emergency procedures and surgical interventions while ensuring effective postoperative monitoring
  • Coordinating patient care with experienced veterinary technicians and maintaining clear communication with pet owners
  • Contributing to clinical case discussions and supporting consistent standards of emergency and preventative veterinary medicine

Qualifications Needed:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or an equivalent recognised veterinary qualification
  • Current veterinary registration in Ontario or eligibility to obtain the appropriate provincial licence
  • Confidence in managing small animal medical cases with an interest in emergency procedures and critical care
  • Strong clinical judgement, compassionate client communication and the ability to remain composed during demanding situations
  • A collaborative approach to veterinary medicine with enthusiasm for mentorship and continued professional development

Package:

  • A purpose-built veterinary environment equipped for comprehensive 24-hour emergency and critical care services
  • Access to experienced veterinary mentors supporting clinical development at different stages of professional experience
  • Fair distribution of weekend duties with consideration for maintaining a balanced working schedule
  • Opportunities to develop advanced emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery and critical patient management capabilities
  • Exposure to varied veterinary presentations, including exotic companion animals and complex medical cases
  • Modern diagnostic facilities incorporating ultrasound and endoscopy for detailed clinical investigations
  • Collaborative case management alongside experienced veterinarians and skilled veterinary nursing professionals
  • Professional growth opportunities through practical learning, shared clinical expertise and individual development interests
  • An encouraging working atmosphere focused on supportive clinical relationships and high standards of patient welfare
  • Opportunities to participate in local animal welfare initiatives and community veterinary activities
