Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Small Animal Emergency Veterinary Surgeon for an immediate-start, permanent out-of-hours position based at a busy hospital. This sole-charge role involves managing overnight emergencies, assessing urgent presentations and overseeing the continued care of hospitalised patients.
The successful applicant will work seven consecutive nights followed by twenty-one nights off within a four-week rota cycle. Each shift is supported by an experienced veterinary nurse and a Veterinary Care Assistant, providing practical assistance throughout the night while allowing the veterinarian to retain clinical responsibility for cases.
This opportunity would suit a calm and decisive clinician who is comfortable working independently, prioritising competing emergencies and communicating clearly with pet owners during stressful situations.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and stabilising emergency and critically unwell patients
- Managing overnight inpatient treatment and monitoring plans
- Performing urgent medical and surgical procedures when required
- Making independent clinical decisions during sole-charge shifts
- Providing clear case handovers to the daytime clinical team
Qualifications Needed:
- MRCVS registration and eligibility to practise in England
- Previous experience in emergency, hospital or out-of-hours practice
- Confidence managing cases independently during overnight shifts
- Strong clinical judgement under pressure
- Availability to begin the position as soon as possible
