Small Animal Emergency Veterinarian Job, Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Job Description: Our client is seeking a Small Animal Emergency Veterinarian to join a well-equipped after-hours hospital in a newly created position. This role is designed for a clinician who thrives in urgent care, enjoys independent case management, and appreciates a collaborative team environment. With a schedule built around three shifts per week for many full-time veterinarians, this opportunity offers an alternative to traditional daytime practice while maintaining strong work-life balance.

You will be responsible for assessing, stabilising, and treating emergency and critical care cases in a fast-paced setting. The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, in-house laboratory diagnostics, and a thoughtfully designed treatment space to support efficient workflow. The team culture prioritises mutual support, clinical discussion, and compassionate client communication during high-stress situations.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Eligible for full veterinary licensure in Ontario
  • Three to seven years of small animal clinical experience
  • Confidence managing emergency and urgent care presentations
  • Strong decision-making skills under pressure

Responsibilities:

  • Stabilise and treat urgent and critical cases
  • Perform emergency surgical procedures as required
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory findings rapidly
  • Communicate clearly with clients during time-sensitive situations
  • Work closely with veterinary nurses to ensure coordinated patient care

Package:

  • Three-shift full-time schedule option promoting extended time off
  • Competitive base compensation combined with performance incentives
  • Comprehensive medical and dental insurance coverage
  • Continuing education funding with focus on emergency and critical care
  • Paid Ontario licensing and professional association fees
  • Professional liability insurance fully provided
  • Retirement savings plan options available
  • Uniform allowance included
  • Paid vacation and sick leave
