Small Animal Associate Veterinarian Job, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Job Description: Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Associate Veterinarian to join a well-established veterinary setting offering comprehensive medical, surgical and preventative care. This permanent, full-time opportunity is suited to a clinician with at least two years of practical experience who enjoys managing varied clinical presentations while building trusted relationships with pet owners. The position offers exposure to routine and emergency surgery, dentistry, diagnostic investigations, preventative healthcare and exotic animal medicine, providing opportunities to expand existing skills and explore additional professional interests.

The successful applicant will work alongside knowledgeable veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and client care professionals in a welcoming environment that encourages shared clinical decisions and continuous improvement. An emphasis on low-stress animal handling, compassionate treatment and individualised patient management supports a thoughtful approach to veterinary medicine. Experienced colleagues are available for case discussions and mentorship, helping clinicians strengthen their confidence in challenging medical and surgical situations.

A standard 40-hour working week provides a structured full-time arrangement, with availability for evening, weekend and on-call duties required. The role combines independent clinical responsibility with opportunities for additional training, practical mentorship and meaningful contributions to veterinary service development. This position is particularly appealing to someone seeking a stable career with varied clinical work and opportunities for continued professional advancement.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing routine and urgent surgical cases, including perioperative monitoring and postoperative patient care
  • Investigating medical conditions through physical examinations, laboratory testing and appropriate diagnostic procedures
  • Advising pet owners on vaccinations, nutrition, dental health, preventative medicine and ongoing treatment requirements
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records, preparing appropriate prescriptions and ensuring correct client billing
  • Participating in clinical discussions, scheduled team meetings and continuing education activities while supporting efficient patient care

Qualifications Needed:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or an equivalent recognised veterinary qualification with required certification examinations completed
  • A minimum of two years of practical veterinary experience and current eligibility for licensure in British Columbia
  • Confidence in general small animal medicine, surgical procedures and compassionate patient handling
  • Excellent communication abilities with an interest in client education and collaborative clinical decision-making
  • Willingness to participate in evening, weekend and on-call schedules while maintaining high professional standards

Package:

  • Permanent full-time employment with a structured 40-hour working week
  • Discretionary performance bonuses and potential salary increases based on eligibility and professional contribution
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance alongside life and accidental death coverage following the qualifying period
  • Employer-supported retirement savings through an RRSP matching arrangement
  • Paid annual vacation and sick leave provisions to support personal wellbeing
  • Continuing education funding and access to experienced veterinary mentors for ongoing clinical development
  • Veterinary Information Network membership, professional licensing expenses and malpractice insurance covered
  • Generous veterinary care benefits for employees’ personal pets following the initial three-month probationary period
  • Opportunities to broaden clinical expertise in exotic animal medicine, dentistry, emergency surgery and diagnostic investigations
  • A collaborative working environment with access to experienced clinical colleagues and continued professional learning opportunities
