Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian to take on a varied full-time position combining predominantly farm animal work with a smaller companion animal caseload. Approximately 80% of the role is focused on large animal medicine across dairy, beef, and sheep clients, offering plenty of scope to build lasting relationships with local farmers and take a proactive approach to herd health.
The remaining portion of the position can include around 20% small animal work within a modern, well-equipped clinical setting. Cases can be supported by in-house diagnostic testing, digital radiography, ultrasound, contemporary anaesthetic monitoring, surgical facilities, and dental equipment, allowing thorough investigation and treatment across a diverse caseload.
This opportunity would particularly suit a confident mixed practitioner who enjoys variety and client interaction, although an experienced veterinarian wishing to concentrate solely on large animal work may also be considered. A 1-in-4 weekend rota forms part of the position, with shared support for out-of-hours responsibilities.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering veterinary services across dairy, beef, and sheep farms
- Contributing to fertility programmes, herd health planning, and preventative medicine
- Managing routine and investigative companion animal cases where appropriate
- Developing trusted professional relationships with farming and pet-owning clients
- Sharing weekend and out-of-hours duties within the established rota
Qualifications Needed:
- Veterinary qualification permitting practice in Ireland
- Previous experience within mixed or large animal veterinary medicine
- Confidence managing routine farm calls and making independent clinical decisions
- Strong communication skills with a practical, client-focused approach
- Interest in contributing to both preventative care and ongoing service development
Package:
- Generous continuing professional development allowance with support for individual clinical interests
- 1-in-4 weekend rota providing a structured approach to shared duties
- Professional membership fees covered
- Pension provision included as part of the employment package
- Vehicle allowance available where applicable to the position
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Access to confidential employee support resources
- Staff discounts alongside additional lifestyle and retail benefits
- Modern diagnostic, surgical, imaging, and laboratory equipment available for clinical work
- Supportive working environment with opportunities for continued professional progression
