Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced mixed animal veterinarian to join a diverse rural practice located in the King Country area. This role provides the opportunity to work with a broad range of animal species including livestock, working dogs and companion pets, delivering high-quality herd health support, field services, routine general practice care and surgical procedures. The successful candidate will be part of a team that values practical, evidence-based approaches and building long-term relationships with farmers and pet owners.
This position offers a varied clinical workload with opportunities to provide herd health planning, reproductive and parasite management services for production animals, as well as general consultations, soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic work for small animals and working dogs. You will work collaboratively within a supportive team across both Piopio and Te Kuiti locations, with ongoing professional growth encouraged.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering herd and flock health assessments and developing tailored management plans
- Providing comprehensive general practice care for companion animals with diagnostics and surgery
- Conducting field-based veterinary services such as pregnancy testing and disease control support
- Communicating effectively with farmers and pet owners to guide care decisions
- Collaborating with colleagues and support staff to uphold high clinical standards
Qualifications Needed:
- Veterinary degree eligible for registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Council
- Proven competence in both large and small animal medicine and surgery
- Strong communication skills with clients, farmers and team members
- A proactive, adaptable approach to mixed practice challenges
