Mixed Animal Associate Veterinarian Job, Galatea, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Job Description: Our client is seeking a highly experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian to take on a hands-on clinical leadership position within an established rural veterinary setting. This opportunity is particularly suited to a confident practitioner who enjoys combining varied veterinary medicine with the responsibility of guiding colleagues, strengthening clinical standards and developing lasting relationships with agricultural clients. The caseload has a significant dairy focus, with production animal services accounting for approximately 95% of large animal work, alongside opportunities to remain involved in mixed veterinary practice.

The successful candidate will play an influential role in mentoring veterinary professionals, supporting clinical decision-making and contributing to the continued development of veterinary services. With a predominantly local farming clientele and dairy herds typically ranging from 100 to 800 cows, this position offers a rewarding combination of practical fieldwork, professional autonomy and leadership development in a collaborative working environment.

Qualifications Needed:

  • A recognised veterinary science degree with eligibility for professional registration in New Zealand.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience working across mixed animal veterinary practice.
  • Demonstrated interest in mentoring colleagues and taking responsibility for clinical leadership.
  • Strong communication abilities with confidence in developing trusted relationships with rural clients.
  • A practical and adaptable approach to veterinary medicine with enthusiasm for team development.

Package:

  • A hands-on clinical leadership opportunity with meaningful responsibility for team development.
  • Flexible working arrangements supporting a healthy balance between professional and personal commitments.
  • Scope to influence clinical services and contribute to the future direction of veterinary operations.
  • Access to experienced veterinary colleagues for professional advice and clinical collaboration.
  • Opportunities to strengthen expertise in dairy herd health and mixed animal medicine.
  • An established rural client base offering consistent clinical variety and long-term professional relationships.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities tailored to individual career aspirations.
  • The chance to mentor developing veterinarians and strengthen clinical capabilities across the team.
  • A supportive working environment with dedicated veterinary and administrative colleagues.
  • An attractive remuneration structure recognising clinical experience and leadership responsibilities.
