Internal Medicine Specialist Veterinarian Job, Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Job Description: Our client is seeking a Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist to help establish and shape a new referral medicine service within a multidisciplinary hospital. The successful specialist will influence clinical protocols, workflows, equipment priorities and the long-term direction of the department while managing complex medical cases to an exceptional standard.

The role offers close collaboration with clinicians across emergency and critical care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, dentistry and anaesthesia. Experienced nurses and dedicated 24-hour inpatient clinicians provide dependable support, allowing the specialist to concentrate on case investigation, treatment planning, client communication and advanced medical care.

This opportunity would suit a board-certified or residency-trained clinician who values humility, shared decision-making and open clinical discussion. The specialist will also support interns, communicate with referring veterinarians and contribute to ongoing education throughout the hospital.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine or completion of an approved residency
  • Eligibility for specialist veterinary registration in Western Australia
  • Advanced diagnostic and clinical reasoning abilities
  • Collaborative approach to complex case management
  • Commitment to mentorship, education and continued professional development

Package:

  • Four-day working week with flexible part-time options
  • Protected time for reporting, case coordination and client communication
  • Minimal after-hours responsibilities with dedicated overnight inpatient support
  • Experienced specialist nursing assistance
  • Generous continuing education funding
  • Professional registration fees covered
  • Professional indemnity insurance provided
  • Access to MRI, CT, endoscopy, fluoroscopy and advanced ultrasound
  • Guaranteed minimum earnings with salary or commission options
  • Potential future participation in hospital ownership
