Farm Animal Veterinarian Job, Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Farm Animal Veterinarian Job, Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Job Description: Our client is seeking a Senior Farm Animal Veterinarian with ideally four or more years of clinical experience to join an established large animal practice. The position is predominantly dairy focused, working with herds averaging approximately 420 cows and providing practical veterinary advice suited to each farming operation.

This role offers considerable clinical independence and the opportunity to develop trusted, long-standing relationships with farmers. The successful applicant will manage herd health concerns, investigate production issues and deliver commercially practical solutions to everyday on-farm challenges.

An experienced clinician who enjoys sharing knowledge will also have opportunities to guide developing veterinarians while continuing to expand their own technical and advisory capabilities.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering proactive herd health and production-management services
  • Investigating fertility, disease and performance concerns on farm
  • Providing practical recommendations to farmers and key decision-makers
  • Managing routine and urgent large animal veterinary cases
  • Mentoring less experienced veterinarians where appropriate

Qualifications Needed:

  • A recognised veterinary degree with eligibility for registration in New Zealand
  • Ideally four or more years of farm animal veterinary experience
  • Strong knowledge of dairy medicine and herd health planning
  • Confidence making independent decisions in an on-farm environment
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities

Package:

  • Senior-level position with meaningful clinical autonomy
  • Predominantly dairy-focused caseload with established farming clients
  • Well-equipped vehicle and practical resources for field work
  • Experienced veterinary and technical colleagues available for support
  • Opportunity to mentor and develop newer clinicians
  • Continued professional education and skills development
  • Varied involvement in herd health and production consultancy
  • Balanced working arrangements supporting time outside the role
  • Long-term opportunity to build trusted client relationships
  • Employment benefits discussed according to experience
