Job Details: Our clients medical center is looking for a Medical Director to help lead and grow their well-established team of medical and radiation oncologists. This position would be based out of their Richmond, VA location. The center has been providing care for companion animals in the Mid-Atlantic area for over 20 years. The Medical Director, in conjunction with the hospital leadership teams will be responsible for overseeing the medical operations of the hospital, serve as a mentor to staff, and lead the advancement of high-quality patient care and client service. The Medical Director will also work in collaboration with the hospital leadership teams to maintain and build their relationships with the referring community. 

The successful candidate will possess strong emotional intelligence, with self-awareness, a positive attitude, authenticity, and empathy toward others. Leadership/management experience in a large, multi-specialty or multilocation practice is preferred, although experience in other areas of leadership (such as academia, industry, or not-for-profit) will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be able to oversee the medical operations of the hospital, serve as a mentor to staff, and lead the advancement of high-quality patient care and client service, working in collaboration with the hospital leadership teams to maintain and build relationships with the referring community. 

The ideal candidate for the Medical Director position should have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university. They should also have board certification in medical or radiation oncology, radiology, or internal medicine (DACVIM-O, DACVR-RO, DACVR, or DACVIM). The successful candidate should have at least 10 years of clinical, scientific, or industry experience, ideally in a high-volume environment. Additionally, they should have professional and excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, diplomatic attitude. Finally, they should have the ability to become licensed to practice in the state of Virginia. 

As the Medical Director, the successful candidate will have a range of job responsibilities including overseeing the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and control of essential medical services. This is a full-time position consisting of 2-3 clinic days per week and 1.5-2 days of “off-clinic” time allocated for management responsibilities. The Medical Director will advise on policies and procedures for “best practice” clinical operations and efficient use of staff while ensuring an optimum client experience without compromising profitability. Additionally, they will be responsible for the strategic clinical relationship with the referring veterinary community, overseeing client medical issues, and providing clinical mentoring and coaching. The Medical Director will also supervise staff and monitor training, continuing education, and development of the clinical team (DVMs & techs), evaluate the performance of technical staff members, and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. Other job responsibilities include making recommendations for improving the effectiveness of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability of subordinates are defined and understood, and monitoring all aspects of medical quality and reporting findings to senior management.
