Type of Work: Small Animal Vet Surgeon
Job Details: Our client is looking for a veterinary surgeon to join their team on a full-time basis, (40 hours a week). This is generally spread over a 4.5-day week, but they would consider a 4-day week if that suited you!
They are happy to consider part time applicants and shifts can be discussed happily, with some flexibility. The good news! There are no OOH’s, Bank Holiday’s or Full Weekends! The out of hours provider is Vets Now and their weekends consist of Saturdays only, on a 1 in 4 basis currently. Time in lieu is provided for this.
They offer 15-minute consultations minimum, extended consults can be catered for, for more complex cases. The diary is organised with plenty of room for appointments, emergency block offs/on the day appointments, breaks, catch ups and time for phone calls. There is also a fairly constant stream of tea and coffee to keep you going. If you’re unhappy with anything they are always keen to try and work out the best way to adapt and help! They have a range of equipment including dental machine, digital x-rays, and ultrasound. The teams are friendly and supportive, and they have a wide range of knowledge across the Vets and RVNs.
They find they work best by discussing cases and sharing opinions, communication is a really important part of the day to day here and they encourage openness and teamwork but also the freedom to explore your own cases as you wish. CPD is a generous allowance and encouraged for personal progression and that of the practice.
Both of their practices are situated within walking distance of the town centres. Both practices are equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, as well as all the basic necessities for a first opinion practice. They have a visiting referral orthopaedic Vet, who joins them on a need to basis to perform some surgeries for us. Both practices have a separate dog and cat ward to minimize the stress for their inpatients. They are both equipped with reasonably sized theatres and consult rooms and offer generous reception waiting areas (when clients are allowed back in!). Currently they are working on a non-client entry for consults, except for euthanasia’s and to make payments where over the phone isn’t possible. They help a range of loyal clientele, many of their clients are insured which offers great opportunity to work to the standard they all strive for! There are also clients with lower incomes so it is important to be able to adapt to suit so that they still receive the best care they can give. Overall, they provide an interesting and varied caseload!
The role is not currently suitable for a new graduate Veterinary Surgeon, as candidates will be required to work independently without support at times. They will need to be able to undertake all manner of routine consults and surgeries on a sole charge basis. They are seeking a competent experienced Vet who is able to work by themselves.
